This year has been another big one for digital and content marketing and 2017 is likely to be an even more exciting year in the industry.

Here are 10 digital and content marketing trends to look out for in 2017.

Bigger budgets

2017 is going to be the year of bigger content and digital marketing budgets. As the value of creative and key content continues to grow, more brands are assigning a larger part of their marketing budgets to digital and content marketing rather than traditional. It has been suggested that in 2017 51% of B2B and 50% of B2C marketers plan to increase their internal budget next year.

The continued rise of video

The amount of video content we see has increased rapidly over the last few months and it’s been predicted by Syndacast that in 2017, 74% of internet traffic will be video. With more platforms encouraging not only standard video content but live video, (we will talk more about this a bit later) more brands are incorporating video into their digital and content marketing campaigns.

The rise of the email newsletter

Who said email marketing is less effective than it used to be? If you were thinking about starting an email newsletter for your business, then 2017 is the year to do it.

With open rates increasing and more businesses using email as a main form of communication with customers, they are a valuable part of your marketing strategy.

The year of live video

One of the most significant social trends from 2016 was the huge success of Facebook Live. Since then several other platforms have launched their own live video options, including Instagram most recently.

Live video offers a great opportunity for engagement. Don’t ignore it in 2017!

Paid promotions overtaking organic

The drop in social engagement for organic posts became even more prominent as 2016 went on. Social media platforms are making it harder for brands to reach customers organically with every update. With that in mind it’s crucial that you budget for paid social campaigns in 2017.

Importance of mobile

Just about every year it is predicted that it will be ‘the year of the mobile’ but 2017 ACTUALLY is just that. With mobile traffic figures now overtaking that of desktop it is now more important than ever that your content is mobile friendly.

Increase in influencer marketing

Influencer marketing has been around in some form for many years, but in 2017 it’s time to not only look at how many followers an influencer has but also how relevant those followers are to your target audience. If you don’t already have some form of influencer strategy, 2017 is the time to create one.

Creativity is key

Visuals are everything. Brands are being more creative now than ever before so it is important that you are creative with the format of your posts. It is said that content with relevant images can get 94% more views than that without.

Social media being used as a customer support platform

Customers are now using social media as a primary form of contact if they have a query or an issue. It may be daunting if a customer complains online but it can be used in your favour.

If a complaint is handled correctly it will not only resolve the issue, but allows the customer to feel in control and appreciative of the fast and effective response from the brand. It will not only make them happier but also give a positive feeling to the rest of your followers who know that if they have an issue it will be dealt with.

Content is, and will continue to be, everything

2016 was a wonderful year for content marketing and in 2017 it’s only going to get better. The role it plays in allowing a brand to reach, engage and convert your target customers is priceless so it’s crucial you get it right.
